“A History of God” is a very special program reviewing the history of monetheism practiced by Jews, Christians and Muslims. It is fine synopsis of Karen Armstrong’s incredible book by the same title, a work of scholarship with a narrative of some 399 pages. My transcript of the program from the DVD is just 30 pages — a tribute to the incredible writing and editing by talent people who produced this program.

The following resource people appear in the program:

Karen Armstrong, Theologian, [Scholar / Historian] – Author of A HISTORY OF GOD; Rev. Alexander Golitzin, Priestmonk, Marquette University. Theology; Rabbi Irving Greenberg, Chairman U.S. Holocaust Memorial; Dr. Maher Hathout, Islamic Center of Southern California; Dr. E. V. Hill, Senior Pastor, Mt. Zion Baptist Church; Dr. Amina Beverly McCloud, Prof. Islamic Studies, DePaul University; Dr. Martin E. Marty, Professor, University of Chicago; Elaine Pagels, Professor of Religion, Princeton University.

Beginning with the story of Abraham, in the Hebrew Bible, the narration and commentary has been beauifully edited with a fine music score and excellent selected of visuals — paintings, photographs, and video of scenes in the Middle East. Especially remarkable and appreciated are both the writing and editing of narration with the commentary – interviews with the scholars and theologians — terrific transitions between narration and commentary.

This program would be especially useful for both young adults and adults — from high school through college — in religious study classes as well as public schools.

Thought-provoking and not the usual dogmatic information. I’ve watched it 8 times, will probably watch it another 8 times, and have read the book. Highly recommended for those with open, questioning minds.

The words and images are beautiful, and the information gives a broad understanding of many of the world’s religions.

However, the show is 100 minutes long, not 50 as the description says.

From a secular view point this is a very interesting program explaining God the Father. I am a reborn again Christian and I have watched many programs dealing with Christian or Judaism topics and have been disappointed and sometimes offended. I was impressed with this program because it taught me some things I didn’t realize before. This documentary was very tastefully done.
